Ladder to the second storey

Half a dozen wooden bars
Ladder to the second storey

Couple of steps slither by
Broken knees seldom hurt.

Later
Steel bars….. Rotten bars
A mock trail

Somewhere up the way down
Bars crack
To strands
Here and there
You stare no where

It’s the second storey, they say.

Just two floors up
but
Suspended in the air.

You race
but
Move not

You swirl

Snatched
Squeeze
Thrown away

Three floors up
and
Five floors down

You lounge and look for the night sky

But, you
stare at the first floor
Tilt your head for the barren walls
Close your eyes for the dry patch lands

Roll over
Face down
Smell the earth below the foundation
hold your breath

You wait for the ladder
Steps 1 2 and 3
